My girls jumped the gun a bit and this month have already been skating about half a dozen times. Three weeks ago, they had virtually no skills. But by logging time on the ice, and with some skating instruction from YouTube videos, they have improved greatly. They are now venturing out into what I jokingly call “the Circle of Excellence” - the center of the rink where the next generation of Sasha Cohens skate – and working on skills like backward crossovers and Waltz jumps. Neither of of my girls has any competitive aspirations, but they both recognize skating as a really fun way to get some exercise and they enjoy adding to their repertoire of skills.
