President Obama should use 21st Century Communications Technology to keep touch with Main Street Businesses like Kyle Design.
The SF Chronicle reports today that renowned Crackberry addict President-elect Obama may have to give up his Blackberry after he is sworn into office.
The article was a little sketchy on details regarding why the Chief Executive of the world’s only superpower is prevented from using tools that are commonly available to middle-schoolers. It mentioned only that the President has traditionally been deprived of these tools due to security concerns and the need for presidential correspondence to be “in the official record”, so that it will ultimately be available for public review.
Paulano has to say, neither of those seem like insurmountable problems.
The article goes on to say that if he puts a laptop on his Oval Office desk, he will be the first US President to do so. But apparently, there is still a question about whether even that concession to the 21st century will be made.
I hope that our federal security experts and archivists figure this out before inauguration. Let Mr. Obama have his Blackberry.
If possible, we should avoid the situation of Mr. Obama cruising the halls of the White House with a pen and a pad of sticky notes, printing messages like: Rahm- Call me or come to my office ASAP. We need to talk. B.
