Well here we are. My first Blog Post.
Who is Paulano?
My real name is Paul Mansfield. I was born and raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. My parents are Ed and Eunice Mansfield. Both mom and dad are in their mid eighties, and both are still very definitely “with-it”. I’m hoping this is a good omen for me. Dad was a dentist and practiced for 27 years. Mom was a high school English and journalism teacher, a homemaker, a devoted church volunteer, and for a couple years, an Algebra tutor helping residents at the South Dakota State Penitentiary to get their high school diplomas. I have two older sisters. Meg, a middle school band instructor in Washington, and Lisa, a kindergarten teacher in Colorado. Last but certainly not least, my only other close relative from the family I came from is my beloved Auntie Marilyn.
I’ve been married for nearly 16 years to the incredible and terrific Kyle McKeown Mansfield of Kyle Design, Inc. We have 2 fantastic daughters – Parker, 12, and Kayden, 9. We live in Livermore, California.
I graduated from St. Olaf College in 1984 with a major in Math. For nearly my entire career, I was at Triad Systems Corporation, (now known as Activant Solutions, Inc.) where I worked primarily as a programmer/analyst. I also spent 2 years serving on the board of the Livermore Valley Charter School. I am currently a stay-at-home dad and school volunteer, and career-wise, pondering what I want to do next. For recreation, I generally enjoy simple activities like swimming, biking, dog walking, reading, and yes, watching TV.
My motivation for doing a blog is a combination of several things: First of all, I’m not really even sure what a blog is, so curiosity is a component. Second, I like to write, so certainly this blog will help scratch that itch. Third, there actually are times that I feel compelled to weigh in on certain issues, and this blog can serve as an outlet. And finally, I’m told by my valedictorian wife (Hayward High School, Hayward, California, Class of 1979), that if I should ever have an occasion to mention her website or her products, doing so will increase her visibility on the Web. Hey, I’m all for that!
